Louis Vuitton a/w 2011 y Giles a/w 2011 (Style.com)
Hi guys!! How was your weekend? Here in Catalonia we have our "patriotic" day tomorrow so more rest time for us :)
One of my favorite hobbies is to compulsively check Style.com's videos in order to watch over and over again all the collections. I usually do it twice: one when the collection is released during fashion week and another when the season starts (call me nerd, i know!). A few days ago I was about to check what I thought was Gucci f/w 2012 when I realized, about 30 seconds later, that I was watching last winter's video. The makeup of both seasons is almost identical, that's the reason why I didn't realize it before.
On the other hand, both Jason Wu and BCBG Max Azria's s/s 2013 collections have a strong bondage influence, as you can see in the images above. This reminded me of the Louis Vuitton and Giles collections from last winter (although they weren't so ladylike).
And the list goes on and on: pastel colors, midi skirts, knee boots... Every two or three seasons, they show up as big trends. But, in fact, there's never something actually new and that we haven't seen and worn before...
I get it, innovating every season isn't that easy. Plus, many designers keep a certain connection between collections, in order to get an identity and coherence. Besides that, customer's taste doesn't change from night to day. Although I can't help but think that I'm seeing the same stuff over and over again, and I'm afraid I'll end up being bored by fashion.
Besides that, I think it's important to create a certain identity, a few things that help us build an identity that will define our time into fashion history. Because we can't deny that, in these last years, it seemed like most of the designers were just re-doing what was cool in past fashion decades.
What do you think? Do you also have that deja vu feeling whenever a new season comes in?

ResponderEliminarPor cierto, me gusta mucho tu blog, muuy interesante!

Loved your post!!!
ResponderEliminarI agree that our tasts don't change so fast.
And their idea is to make us buy...
So, they just present the same things, only in a different way, so they can trick us, making us believe it is something we have never seen before.
I think innovating is not their main concern, but to encourage us to buy. So, they create needs that we don't have.
